Grandmaster In Residence
Julio Sadorra was born in the Philippines, a country which enjoys a rich chess tradition and respect for the game. His father introduced chess to him at age 6, and Julio immediately began sharpening his attacking skills which have now become his trademark. After multiple youth national championships and tournament victories in Asia, Julio was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Texas at Dallas. While completing his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Julio also earned his Grandmaster title in 2011.
An impressive 2013, including becoming US Open Co-Champion, cemented Sadorra as one of the strongest players on the American chess scene. Currently the #1 ranked player from the Philippines, Julio will play Board 1 at his second Chess Olympiad in 2016.
His deep understanding and strong preparation have helped train notable local masters such as GM Jeffery Xiong, IM Ruifeng Li, and NM Jarod Pamatmat. Julio brings a great enthusiasm for chess to the NTCA, and will be offering his valuable insight to anyone who wishes to improve their game.
